NEW YORK - DePaul volleyball's Jasmine King was a force at the net for the Blue Demons this past weekend and earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, announced Monday by the conference office. This is the first weekly honor for the junior middle blocker in her collegiate career.
King, the BIG EAST leader for block per set, had a weekend to remember for the Blue Demons. The junior led the team with 23 total blocks over nine sets and tallied 25 kills, while hitting a percentage of .423. King finished the 1-1 weekend with 37.5 points, first for the Blue Demons.
"I am extremely proud of Jasmine," said head coach Nadia Edwards. "Lately, she has been unstoppable for us and has truly taken her game to the next level in the last stretch of the season."
The Olympia Fields, Ill. native opened the weekend with 13 kills and tied a career-high with eight blocks. DePaul defeated Providence on the road in four sets. The next day at St. John's, King surpassed her career-high with 15 total blocks and posted 12 kills. She was the first Blue Demon to register double-digit blocks since 2006.
"Over the last few weekends, she has been a key offensive weapon for our team and has emerged as the leading blocker in the conference," stated Edwards. "Jasmine has overcome so much adversity this season and has continued to push herself. I am so happy that she is ending the year on such a high note."
King and the DePaul volleyball team close out the 2015 season this weekend with road matches against Xavier and Butler.
