
Final Weekend Ahead for Volleyball

Xavier-Butler Notes | BEDN on FOX Sports Go (Butler Match)
CHICAGO -- The 2015 DePaul volleyball season comes to a close this weekend as the Blue Demons face Xavier and Butler on the road. DePaul faces Xavier on Friday at 6 p.m. CT. and Butler at 5 p.m. CT on Saturday on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
Jasmine King returns to the court after receiving her spot on the BIG EAST weekly honor roll this past week. The DePaul middle blocker leads the BIG EAST with 1.31 blocks per set and is tied for the team lead with 88 total blocks.
Callie Huebener, last week's BIG EAST weekly honor roll member, is third on the Blue Demons with 119 kills and 120 digs in BIG EAST matches. The senior outside hitter leads the BIG EAST with 0.38 service aces per set.
Colleen Smith surpassed 1,000 assists for the second time in her collegiate career after her performance at St. John's. The junior setter recorded her fourth double-double of the season at Providence last week with 40 assists and 11 digs.
DePaul is crawling up the conference team leaders for blocks per set. The Blue Demons currently sit second behind Butler for BIG EAST only matches with 2.58, while Butler has 2.67.

Last Time vs. Xavier
DePaul hosted Xavier, the top team in the BIG EAST coming into night, and earned its first BIG EAST win of 2015 with a victory over the Musketeers, 3-1. King finished the night with 10 kills and five total blocks, both team-highs for the Blue Demons. On the back row, Tyler Graham recorded 14 digs, while Huebener tallied 10 in the win. Abbey Bessler led Xavier with 28 kills on 59 total attacks and 16 digs. The Musketeers committed 24 errors over the four sets, compared to eight for the Blue Demons.
Scouting The Musketeers
Xavier begins the weekend with a 12-4 record in BIG EAST play, already clinching a spot in the BIG EAST Championship. Bessler is the driving force behind the Musketeer attack. She is fourth in the conference with a 3.71 kills per set average and needs just seven kills to surpass 400 for the year. Meredith Klare enjoys an even 4.00 digs per set to lead the Musketeers. She ranks fifth in the conÂÂference in the stat category, while Bessler is ninth at 3.36. The Musketeers hold opponents to a .206 hitting percentage (fourth in BIG EAST) and average 15.81 digs per set (third in BIG EAST).
Last Time vs. Butler
DePaul won the first two sets of its match against Butler, but could not close out the match and dropped the BIG EAST season opener, 3-2. Smith produced a triple-double in the loss for DePaul. The setter closed the match with 46 assists, 10 kills and 10 digs. Huebener notched a douÂÂble-double after tallying a team-high 12 digs and 11 kills. On the attack, Brittany Maxwell led the Blue Demons in kills with 15 on 30 total attacks. Butler's Mary Striedl ended the night with a match-high 27 kills on 47 attacks.
Scouting The Bulldogs
Butler sits at 7-9 in the BIG EAST and 11-18 overall. Freshman Briana Lilly is second in the conference for blocks per set with 1.27. She is runner-up to DePaul's King with a 1.31 average. Makaila Jarema is seventh in the same category with a 1.07 average. Anna Logan ranks in the top-10 for the conference in kills per set with a 3.04 average (eighth). Butler is the top team in the conference for blocks per set at 2.52. In conference matches only, the Bulldogs hold a slight advantage over the Blue Demons, 2.67-2.58.
