CHICAGO - For the second time this season, DePaul forward Jake Scheper has won a weekly award from the BIG EAST Conference.
Scheper was chosen BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday after his game-winning goal in the eighth minute last week sparked the Blue Demons to a 1-0 upset of Butler at the Butler Bowl.
Scheper's shot from the top of the box secured three coveted BIG EAST standings points and allowed DePaul to maintain its playoff position.
That victory last Wednesday had also lifted the Blue Demons to a 3-1-1 record over a five-game span and kept them tied for fifth place. The top six teams advance to the BIG EAST tournament.
Scheper was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Oct. 12 after his goal and assist led DePaul to a stirring 3-2 comeback win over Villanova Oct. 10 at Wish Field after spotting the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.
In his first season, Scheper is making an immediate impact. He is tied for second on the team in goals with three and is third on the team in points with eight.
If DePaul prevails over rival Marquette in the 1 p.m. regular-season finale on Thursday at Wish Field, coach Craig Blazer's side will clinch a berth in the BIG EAST Championship.
