CHICAGO - Simon Megally ended his season on an upbeat note Monday when the BIG EAST Conference announced its final weekly award winners.
Megally was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after his three assists sparked DePaul to a 3-0 victory over Marquette in the conference finale Nov. 5 at Wish Field.
That result enabled the Blue Demons to clinch their first BIG EAST playoff berth since 2011.
No. 5-seed DePaul traveled to Cincinnati over the weekend and came up short in a 2-1 loss to fourth-seeded Xavier Sunday at the XU Soccer Complex.
Megally dribbled up the middle of the field and sent a well-timed cross that connected with Jalen Harvey in full stride on the left wing. Harvey ripped a shot into the back of the Xavier net in the 15th minute to give his team a 1-0 lead.
This was the second time this season Megally has been honored by the conference with a weekly award.
On October 12 the junior forward from Maine South was chosen BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after his two goals---including the game-winner---sparked the Blue Demons to a 3-2 come-from-behind BIG EAST win over Villanova.
Against Marquette, Megally's corner kick in the 29th minute was headed in by Kevin Beyer for his first goal of the season.
Just four minutes later, Megally combined with Caleb Pothast in providing Harvey with a shot just outside the box that the senior midfielder converted.
In the 58th minute, Megally sent the ball wide to Hans Wustling whose cross was deflected into the Marquette net by Erik Rodriguez.
An All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, Megally led DePaul this season with six goals and four assists for 16 points.
