CHICAGO - DePaul's inspiring finish to the 2015 men's soccer season was rewarded on Tuesday when Simon Megally received a postseason accolade from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
The talented junior forward was named to the NSCAA Division I Men's Scholar All-North/Central Region Second Team, joining four other honorees from the BIG EAST Conference.
Three Creighton players (Connor Sparrow, Vince Keller, Fabian Herbers) were selected to the first team and Butler's David Goldsmith accompanied Megally on the second team.
Megally received the first NSCAA award of his career after posting a 3.41 grade-point average and is a Health Sciences major. In addition to academics, athletic accomplishments were part of the criteria in the selection process.
The Blue Demons roared back from a 1-10 start to finish the regular season on a 4-2-1 run and qualify for the BIG EAST Championship tournament for the first time since 2011.
Megally had three assists in the 3-0 victory over Marquette on Nov. 5 at Wish Field that clinched the playoff spot.
He was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team in a vote by the leagues' coaches and forward-midfielder Jake Scheper was voted onto the All-BIG EAST Freshman Team.
Megally led DePaul this season in goals with six and points with 16 and was second in assists with four. In BIG EAST play, Megally had three goals and three assists for nine points.
