Blue Demons Roll at UIC

CHICAGO - Visiting DePaul opened the game with an 11-2 run and never looked back in an 82-55 victory at UIC on Wednesday night. Myke Henry led five players in double-figures with 17 points while Tommy Hamilton IV compiled an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Buckets by Rashaun Stimage, Billy Garrett Jr. and Hamilton got the Blue Demons going early in the evening with a Hamilton three-pointer forcing a UIC time out less than five minutes into the game.
Two free throws by Henry gave DePaul double-figure lead at 20-9 with 9:11 left in the first half. The two free shots were in the midst of a 13-0 run that saw a four-point advantage for the Blue Demons turn into a 17-point lead on an Erten Gazi lay-up with 7:37 until intermission.
DePaul (3-3) went into halftime holding 41-20 advantage after holding the Flames to just a combined .296 field goal percentage. The Blue Demons duplicated the scoring output in the second half with 41 points for the 82-55 final score.
A jumper by Eli Cain with 6:56 on the clock gave the Blue Demons their largest lead of the night at 76-39.
Henry added nine rebounds, three assists and three steals while Hamilton also totaled two assists, a blocked shot and a steal with his double-double. Garrett finished the night with 13 points, six assists and two boards and Stimage turned in an impressive 12 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots. Cain rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points and four rebounds.
UIC (1-4) was led by 17 points from Dominique Matthews and nine by Dikembe Dixson.
DePaul opens the Allstate Arena schedule on Saturday afternoon against Chicago State. The Blue Demons and Cougars are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start in Rosemont on FS1 and WYLL 1160 AM.
Postgame Notes: The 55 points allowed are the fewest in a game since the 84-50 win over Milwaukee on Dec. 9, 2012... the 20 points by UIC in the first half were the fewest allowed in a half since holding Chicago State to 20 in the second half on Dec. 5, 2012... over the last five-plus seasons, DePaul is 14-1 against Chicagoland opponents... over the last 10-plus seasons, the record against locals is 19-5... Rashaun Stimage scored a career-high 12 points and blocked a career-best four shots... Tommy Hamilton IV recorded his fifth career double-double and first of the season... it was also his seventh career game of 10 or more rebounds... Billy Garrett Jr. scored in double-figures for the 49th time... DePaul leads the series, 5-1... against the Horizon League, the Blue Demons are 72-19.
