Hrynko Fuels DePaul Past Creighton in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - DePaul senior guard Brittany Hrynko scored 33 points in the Blue Demons' 78-76 win at Creighton on Friday at D.J. Sokol Arena. The Blue Demons have won their last two games and improve to 21-7 and are 13-3 in BIG EAST Conference play. The loss ends Creighton's six-game winning streak and the Bluejays fall to 15-11 and are 8-7 in league games.
Hrynko's 33 points came on 13-of-23 shooting while the guard knocked down five 3-pointers. The senior also grabbed five rebounds, but none was bigger than an offensive rebound with 11 seconds to play which helped to seal the Blue Demon victory.
Megan Podkowa was one rebound shy of her second consecutive double-double. The junior finished with 15 points and nine rebounds. Chanise Jenkins finished with 11 points and seven assists. The junior guard also added four rebounds and did not commit a single turnover.
MC McGrory and Alexis Alin-Otiko each scored 16 points for Creighton. Brianna Rollerson added 14 points and led the Bluejays with eight rebounds.
Hrynko caught fire in the first half - knocking down four 3-pointers in route to 20 points in the opening stanza.
The Blue Demons found themselves down 28-22 with 6:10 to play in the opening half before Mart'e Grays hit her second 3-pointer of the half. Hrynko followed with a three of her own which started a streak of 16 consecutive points for Hrynko to end the half.
During Hrynko's scoring outburst, the Blue Demons locked down on defense and forced two turnovers and Creighton had a difficult time getting the ball past half court.
DePaul went to the locker room up 41-34.
Hrynko stretched her scoring streak to 20 straight by scoring DePaul's first four points of the second half. When hers ended, Podkowa scored four consecutive.
DePaul built at 67-57 lead with 6:30 to play, but Creighton would not go away and got within two when Akin-Otiko completed the three-point-play with 44 seconds to play.
Jessica January had a good look from behind the arc which bounced to Hrynko for the offensive board with 11 seconds to play.
Creighton had a chance to win the game, by McGrory's desperation shot bounced off the rim.
The Blue Demons travel to Providence for a Noon (ET) game on Sunday. The Friars have made Sunday's game their pink game.
