DePaul Runs Past Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brittany Hrynko scored 29 points to lead the DePaul women's basketball to a 103-66 BIG EAST Conference victory over Providence on Sunday at Alumni Gym. The Blue Demons have won three straight and improve to 22-7 and are 14-3 in conference games. Providence has lost their last eight games and slips to 5-22 and is 1-14 in the league.
Hrynko's 29 points pushed the senior into 20th all-time in the BIG EAST Conference in scoring. The Philadelphia native has scored 1,061 points in regular season league games and is the first DePaul player to be listed on the conference's all-time scoring list. Hrynko, who recorded a pair of 3-pointers against the Friars needs just seven more to become the BIG EAST's all-time 3-point scorer. Hrynko also added seven assists, seven rebounds and four steals.
Chanise Jenkins, who has reached double-figures in her last seven games, scored 19 points to go along with six assists and three steals.
Brooke Schulte recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Mart'e Grays also reached double-figures with 10 points.
Providence was led by 15 points from Alison Lewis and three other players scored 10 points.
DePaul's tenacious and unrelentless defense caused the Friars fits from the beginning. The Blue Demons racked up 21 steals and forced Providence into 39 turnovers. Centrese McGee led DePaul with a season-best five steals.
DePaul scored on its opening possession and never looked back.
The Blue Demons opened their first double-digit advantage (16-6) on a Schulte three--one of nine first-half triples for DePaul.
Jenkins gave the Blue Demons their largest lead of the half - 34-15 -- when the junior sank her third triple of the stanza with just under eight minutes to play.
DePaul went to the locker room up 51-38 behind 13 points from Jenkins and 12 from Hrynko. The Blue Demon pair combined for five 3-pointers.
Providence pulled within 10 (56-46), but the Blue Demons answered with a 14-2 run which featured baskets by Jessica January, McGee, Schulte, Hrynko and Jenkins and the Blue Demons led 70-48 with 13:29 to play.
The Blue Demons reached the 100-point mark for the fifth time this season and for the third time in league play.
The Blue Demons close out the regular season on Mar. 1 when they host their rival Marquette. DePaul and the Golden Eagles tip at 3 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. Following the game, DePaul will celebrate the careers or Centrese McGee, Megan Rogowski and Hrynko.
Notes: DePaul's five 100-point games are the most ever in a single season in the program's 40 year history... All but one Blue Demon scored in the win...
