WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The 65th-ranked DePaul men's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to George Washington on Sunday evening in Washington, D.C.
The Blue Demons drop to 7-4 with the loss while the Colonels improve to 4-6.
DePaul led 3-1 in the match but ultimately fell to George Washington, which picked up all four of its points in singles play. The Blue Demons held a 1-0 advantage after doubles play; Sten Leusink and Kyle Johnson defeated Chris Fletcher and Chris Reynolds, 8-6, at No. 2 singles and Alex Galoustian teamed up with Nathan de Veer to knock off Cahit Kapukiran and Christos Hadjigeorgiou, 8-5.
But the Blue Demons only found two additional points in the match, coming from their No. 4 and 5 singles players. Galoustian remained perfect this spring, knocking off Reynolds, 6-4, 6-3, and Johnson notched a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Kapukiran at No. 5 singles.
Leusink (No. 2), de Veer (No. 3) and Jan-Willem Feilzer (No. 6) each lost hard-fought three-set singles matches.
