DePaul Drops Road Game at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The DePaul men's basketball team fell behind early and couldn't overcome the deficit at Butler in an 83-73 loss on Saturday. The Blue Demons cut a 20-point Butler lead to just four points in the second half, but the Bulldogs pulled away over the final few minutes.
DePaul took an early 7-5 lead on a layup by Billy Garrett Jr. before Butler opened up the game with a 25-6 run. The run started with 11 straight points by the Bulldogs and ended with a three-pointer by Kellen Dunham. Dunham's three gave Butler a 30-13 lead with 9:11 left in the first half.
Butler (18-6, 8-3 BIG EAST) led by as many as 20 points late in the first half. DePaul closed the opening frame by holding the Bulldogs to a single point over the final four minutes and trailed 40-27 at halftime.
The first three minutes of the second half played even until a Durrell McDonald layup sparked a comeback for the Blue Demons. His bucket with 16:19 left ignited a 14-5 burst that saw a Forrest Robinson three-pointer moving the Blue Demons to within nine points with just over 12 minutes left in the game.
DePaul's run continued as the Blue Demons pulled to within four on two occasions. The first was off a three-pointer by Jamee Crockett and the second was after two free throws by Rashaun Stimage. Stimage's two free shots made the score 59-55 with 8:10 left in the second half.
Over the next two minutes, Butler increased its advantage back to double-figures and led by as many as 13 points in the final minutes before Myke Henry finished the afternoon with a three-pointer for the 83-73 final.
Crockett led DePaul (12-13, 6-6 BIG EAST) with 14 points while Henry scored 12 with six rebounds and Stimage added 10 points and five boards. Dunham led all scorers with 24 points and Roosevelt Jones added 20 for Butler.

Postgame Notes: Jamee Crockett moved into a tie for 15th place on DePaul's all-time three-point field goal list... he has 108 career three-pointers... DePaul leads the series, 6-3... Butler has won the last two meetings... the loss was the first for the Blue Demons at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
