MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The DePaul men's tennis team salvaged its tournament finale against Binghamton on Sunday morning at the MTSU Shootout.
The Blue Demons beat the Bearcats, 4-3, to snap their two-match skid and improve to 11-8 overall. Binghamton fell to 2-14.
DePaul found itself in a 1-0 hole after the doubles matches on Sunday despite a win from Kyle Johnson and Max Renke at No. 3 doubles. The pair defeated Douglas Notaris and Robin Lesage, 6-2.Â
But the Blue Demons rallied back in singles play, taking 4-of-6 matches, including all three in the No. 4-6 slots, to secure their 11th win of the year. Playing No. 2 singles for the first time in his career, freshman Alex Galoustian defeated Lesage, 6-2, 7-5, and Johnson knocked off Frenk Kote in the No. 4 spot, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 5 singles, Jan-Willem Feilzer outlasted Thomas Caputo, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, and Tim Corwin notched a win in the No. 6 position over Notaris, 6-1, 7-6 (5).
DePaul finished the MTSU Shootout with a 1-2 record. The team has three regular season matches remaining before the 2015 BIG EAST Championships (April 23-26) in Indianapolis. Next up for the Blue Demons is an April 10 match at home against Denver. Match time is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
