NEW YORK -- For the third time this season, the BIG EAST Conference has tabbed a DePaul women's tennis player as its player of the week.
The conference announced on Tuesday afternoon that Patricia Fargas was its Women's Tennis Player of the Week after the Blue Demon senior put together four singles and doubles wins over the weekend and clinched two matches.
For Fargas, this marks the third time in her career she has received the award and first time since Feb. 4, 2014.
Fargas outlasted Aslina Chua (Michigan State) in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (3), to clinch a 4-3 victory for the now-No. 32 Blue Demons on Saturday against a tough Spartans squad. Her win over Chua came at No. 3 singles. The same day, she paired up with Jasmin Kling to take down Erin Faulkner and Athena Trouillot, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles.
Fargas and Kling are currently ranked No. 39 nationally in doubles.
To cap the weekend, Fargas beat Carlota Trevino (IPFW), 7-5, 4-6, 6-1, to post DePaul's fourth point of the day in its 7-0 win in Fort Wayne, Ind., over the Mastodons. The victory also came at No. 3 singles. Fargas and Kling beat Marcy Huck and Mayu Sato, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles earlier in Sunday's win.
Fargas is 9-1 in dual singles play and 6-1 in doubles matches this spring.
Next up for 10-3 DePaul is a doubleheader this Saturday (March 7) at home in Chicago against Northern Illinois (2 p.m.) and Milwaukee (6 p.m.).
