Blue Demons Fall at Marquette

MILWAUKEE - DePaul started slow and couldn't get on track in a 58-48 loss at Marquette on Saturday. Jamee Crockett led the Blue Demons with 14 points and six rebounds while Myke Henry added a dozen points and six boards.
The Blue Demons combined to shoot just .267 in the first half and trailed 28-19 at intermission. Both teams couldn't find the basket early before a three-pointer and a jumper by Crockett gave DePaul (12-19, 6-12 BIG EAST) a 5-0 advantage with just over 17 minutes left in the first half.
Marquette answered with a 17-5 run with a Matt Carlino three-pointer making the score, 17-10, with just under nine minutes until intermission.
DePaul made a run early in the second half with an alley-oop from Durrell McDonald to Henry closing the deficit to seven points. Marquette then regained a double-figure advantage it would hold for the rest of the afternoon on a Carlino layup with 10 minutes left in the game.
Marquette (12-18, 4-14 BIG EAST) led by as many as 15 points late in the game and was led by 20 points from Carlino and 17 points from Luke Fischer.
Crockett totaled 14 points, six rebounds and three steals in his final regular-season game while Henry added 12 points, six boards and a blocked shot. Rashaun Stimage and R.J. Curington each scored nine points for the Blue Demons.
DePaul enters next week's BIG EAST Tournament as the No. 7 seed and faces 10th-seeded Creighton. The first-round game is scheduled for a 9:30 p.m. ET start at Madison Square Garden on FOX Sports 1 and WSCR 670 AM.
Postgame Notes: Jamee Crockett moved into a tie for 52nd on DePaul's all-time scoring list... his 950 points put him in a tie with Mike Gillespie (1971-74)... Crockett is also tied with Bobby Simmons (121 3FG, 1998-01) for ninth place on the three-point field goal list... DePaul's 48 points are a season low... the 19 points in the first half match the season low set against St. John's on Jan. 18... the 48 points are the fewest in a game since 46 against Butler on March 6, 2014... Marquette leads the all-time series, 71-45... the two teams split the season series.
