SKILLMAN, N.J.-The ITA released its national rankings for preseason play Tuesday afternoon and the DePaul University women's tennis team once again graces the list for singles and doubles.
Junior Yuliya Shupenia is ranked No. 119 in the national singles poll, while Shupenia and graduate senior Rebeca Mitrea are listed as the No. 57 duo in the nation.
"It's great to see our program represented again in this poll," said women's head coach Mark Ardizzone. "I think it shows where our program stands against other teams in the country and the hard work and dedication Yuliya and Rebeca have put into this team."
In addition, Shupenia and Mitrea were selected to the qualifying doubles bracket at the 2015 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships Oct. 6-10 in Los Angeles. Shupenia will also compete in the qualifying singles bracket.
"I know both Yuliya and Rebeca will work hard to stay among the elite and go even higher," said Ardizzone. "It will be good for them to go and compete against some of the best in the country."
Last year, Shupenia finished her first season with the Blue Demons 28-5 overall. The Belarus native went undefeated in singles and doubles action during BIG EAST play. As a result, Shupenia was named the BIG EAST Player of the Year and was selected to the All-BIG EAST Conference squad.
Mitrea returns for her fifth year as a graduate student after finishing last season with the most overall wins on the singles front and finishing with an 11-match winning streak. Mitrea earned the Most Outstanding Player of the BIG EAST Championship and was part of the senior to class to earn back-to-back BIG EAST titles and NCAA Tournament appearances.
At the NCAA Tournament, both Shupenia and Mitrea won their singles matches in the first and second round.
In doubles action, the duo went 11-2 in dual action and 12-2 overall at the No. 2 and 3 spots.
