Vollleyball Opens 2015 BIG EAST Schedule against Butler Wednesday Night

CHICAGO - Weeks of preseason preparation lead to the DePaul volleyball team hosting Butler on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. CT in McGrath-Phillips Arena for DePaul's first BIG EAST match of the 2015 season. The Blue Demons (11-1) put their 11-match win streak on the line, while the Bulldogs (3-9) enter Chicago in hopes of starting the conference slate on a high note.
Middle blocker Caitlyn Coffey leads the BIG EAST and is fourth in NCAA D-I in hitting percentage at .468. Coffey leads the team with 137 kills and 3.19 kills/set. The Blue Demons are also first in the BIG EAST as a team for hitting percentage with a .272 average.
In the BIG EAST team rankings, DePaul is first for total service aces (92) and service aces per set (1.96). The Blue Demons are eighth in the NCAA for service aces per set and are led by Callie Huebener and her average of 0.50 service aces per set.
Brittany Maxwell was the third student-athlete to earn a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the Blue Demons. Maxwell was the Bradley Invitational MVP with 48 kills, nine digs and five blocks. She joins Coffey and Huebener as student-athletes who made the weekly honor for DePaul.
Tyler Graham continues to lead the Blue Demons with 164 digs on the year and 3.64 digs/set. Haley Bueser is just two digs away from cracking 100 for the season.

Last Year vs. Butler
DePaul lost both meetings against the Bulldogs last year. Meeting first in Indianapolis, the Blue Demons were swept by Butler. Callie Huebener led the team with 11 kills, while Colleen Smith posted 35 assists. It was a closer match between the two sides at McGrath-Phillips Arena and it came down to a fifth and final set. The Blue Demons battled, but fell in the fifth set, 15-6. Saige Gallop tallied 18 kills and Lexi Bolotin had a team-best 21 digs.
Scouting The Bulldogs
Butler comes into Chicago with a 3-9 overall record and wins over South Dakota, Illinois-Chicago and Youngstown State. In its latest Invitational, Butler opened with a win, but dropped the final matches to Missouri and Southern Illinois. The Bulldogs faced two ranked opponents this year with No. 14 Ohio State and No. 19 Michigan State, a match that went to five sets. Anna Logan leads the attack for Butler with 138 kills and 2.88 kills/set. Makayla Ferguson is the top passer at 352 assists and is dangerous on the serve with a team-best 18 service aces. Butler has a trio of players with over 100 digs on the year. Kodi Smith tops the trio with 129 digs, while Logan and Ferguson follow with 110 and 104, respectively.
