NEW YORK - Coming off a career weekend in the DePaul Invitational, Caitlyn Coffey was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday afternoon. Coffey helped the Blue Demons to a perfect 3-0 record and the DePaul Invitational title this past weekend.
Coffey led the Blue Demons in the home invitational with 47 kills over three matches. The sophomore closed the weekend with a .586 attacking percentage. Coffey currently leads the conference with a .526 hitting percentage after two weeks.
"Over the last two weekends of competition, Caitlyn has been consistently playing at a high level. She has shown us her ability to dominate at the net offensively," said head coach Nadia Edwards. "Caitlyn has been extremely efficient and versatile and was a huge factor in our overall success this past weekend. This is a well-deserved recognition for Caitlyn and I know she will challenge herself to continue to progress in the weeks ahead."
DePaul opened the invitational with a straight-set victory over Toledo on Friday night. Coffey finished with 10 kills on 13 attacks. On Saturday afternoon versus Evansville, the Wauwatosa, Wis. native reached new career-highs with 21 kills and 32 attacks in the victory. Coffey finished her DePaul Invitational with 16 kills (surpassing her previous career-high before the weekend) in the championship match win over Eastern Illinois.
Coffey was named the DePaul Invitational's MVP for her efforts this weekend. The sophomore added 12 total blocks (three solo and nine assisted) on the defensive end to go along with her offensive output for the Blue Demons.
This week's honor marks the second-straight week the Blue Demons had a representative on the Honor Roll. Callie Huebener earned a spot last week for DePaul.
Coffey and DePaul volleyball head to Atlanta, Ga. next weekend for the Georgia State Invitational on Friday, Sept. 11 and Saturday, Sept. 12. Three matches are scheduled over two days for the Blue Demons.
