VILLANOVA, Pa. - These Blue Demons fell behind early on Saturday in a BIG EAST matchup they needed in terms of the conference race.
Hans Wustling scored on a rebound of a blocked Simon Megally penalty kick late in the first half in an effort to start a comeback, but it wasn't enough in a 4-2 loss to Villanova at the Higgins Soccer Complex.
DePaul dropped to 5-4-2, 0-3-0 in the league while Villanova improved to 6-3-1, 2-1-0.
The Wildcats put the visiting side into a two-nil deficit when Miguel Polley scored in the 10th minute and the home side doubled the lead off an own goal in the 19th minute.
Early in the second half, Zach Zandi won a race for a loose ball and cashed in to give Villanova an added insurance score.
The Wildcats struck again in the 82nd minute on a shot by Christopher Bared into the low inside post. Megally converted a free kick from outside the box in the 88th minute with a shot into the lower right.
DePaul returns to Wish Field for a highly anticipated showdown against North Side rival Loyola, ranked No. 12 in the country.
