Blue Demons Set for Midweek Match with Musketeers

CHICAGO - The DePaul volleyball team welcomes Xavier to McGrath-Phillips Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 12 for a BIG EAST midweek matchup and the first of four straight home matches for DePaul. The Blue Demons and Musketeers are set to meet at 6 p.m. CT.
Myah Reed has led the Blue Demons in kills in the past three matches. She reached a new career high in kills with 21 in the win over Butler on Oct. 5. She is second on the team in conference play with a 2.90 kills per set average and 84 total kills.
Colleen Smith returns to the court after being named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll this past Monday. Smith finished last week with a 10.46 assists per set average and two double-doubles.
Jasmine King is first in the BIG EAST for hitting percentage at .378 and has the lead by 13 percentage points. King has 160 kills on the year and is fourth on the team with 2.11 kills per set. She is also first on the team with 78 total blocks.

Last Time vs. Xavier
The second meeting between DePaul and Xavier in 2015 fell in favor of the Musketeers as the Blue Demons dropped the Friday, Nov. 20 match, 3-1 (25-14, 18-25, 25-19, 25-22). Brittany Maxwell led the Blue Demons on Friday night with 11 kills on 28 attacks. The freshman added two blocks and four digs. Three Blue Demons registered double-digit digs. Colleen Smith finished with a team-high 13 digs and 32 assists to complete her fifth double-double of the year.
Scouting The Musketeers
Xavier comes into McGrath-Phillips Arena at an even 3-3 in BIG EAST play and 9-10 overall. The Musketeers picked up a five-set win over Butler last weekend in the only match of the weekend for Xavier. Senior Abbey Bessler leads the Xavier attack with 3.70 kills per set, third in the BIG EAST. Bessler is also fifth in the conference with a 4.11 points per set average. Alexis Newsome is third in the conference with a 1.14 blocks per set average. She is one of four student-athletes in the BIG EAST to produce over 80 blocks on the season. The Musketeers are third in the conference for kills per set at 13.85 and fourth for blocks per set at 2.17.
