Volleyball Set for Weekend Competition

CHICAGO - The DePaul volleyball team hits the road for the first time in three weeks to take on Georgetown and Villanova in BIG EAST play this weekend. DePaul, currently sitting in fifth for the BIG EAST standings, opens with the Hoyas on Friday at 5 p.m. CT and follows with Villanova at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday.
Junior Rachel Breault has started the last two matches for DePaul and totaled 11 kills and five blocks over the six sets. Breault had a team-high four total blocks against Creighton.
Senior Jasmine King has climbed up the rankings for hitting percentage in the NCAA. King is hitting at a .396 percentage and is 21st in the nation for the category.
Senior Colleen Smith has been a big reason for DePaul's hitting success this season. The setter surpassed 4,000 career assists in the win over Providence Saturday night and is first in conference play with 446 total assists.

Last Time vs. Georgetown
The DePaul volleyball team returned to action less than 24 hours after defeating Villanova and swept Georgetown on Oct. 1, 2016, 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 28-26). Colleen Smith secured her eighth double-double of the year and fifth straight after recording match-highs with 30 assists and 12 digs. Brittany Maxwell led the Blue Demons on the attack with 12 kills on 20 attempts with zero errors. Jasmine King followed with 11 kills and a match-high five total blocks.
Scouting The Hoyas
Georgetown goes into the weekend with a 2-8 conference record and 6-17 overall. Alyssa Sinnette is the top attacker for the Hoyas with 3.41 kills per set, sixth in the BIG EAST. Symone Speech is right behind with 3.16 kills per set, ninth in the conference. Kenzie Higareda is fourth in the BIG EAST and first on the team with 4.18 digs per set. The Hoyas are ninth in the BIG EAST for both hitting percentage and opponent hitting percentage.

Returning to McGrath-Phillips Arena for the first time in almost three weeks, the DePaul volleyball team defeated Villanova on Sept. 30, 2016, 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21). Brittany Maxwell showed up big for the Blue Demons on both sides of play. The sophomore finished with a match-high 19 kills, six digs and a match-high five total blocks. Jasmine King closed the night with 15 kills and four blocks, while Caitlyn Coffey recorded 10 kills and four blocks.

Villanova holds the very important fourth-place position in the BIG EAST standings (top four teams make the BIG EAST Championship) heading into the weekend with a 6-4 conference record. Villanova is in the top three for hitting percentage, assists, kills, service aces and digs in the BIG EAST. Villanova's attacking success is thanks to Emma Decker who leads the conference with 11.47 assists per set. Allie Loitz is first in the BIG EAST with .42 service aces per set and 31 total service aces. Loitz also leads the team with a 3.76 kills per set average (third in the BIG EAST).
