CHICAGO – Men’s soccer was honored on Thursday by the National Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for the eighth year in a row.
The Blue Demons’ classroom prowess was recognized with the presentation of the NSCAA Team Academic Award.
A total of 892 soccer teams (315 men, 577 women) from throughout the United States were recognized by the NSCAA with its Team Academic Award for exemplary performance as a team during the 2015-16 academic year.
Among these programs are 221 schools receiving honors for both their men and women's teams. DePaul was among the double winners as the women’s soccer team won the award for the 13th year in a row.
To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
This was the 12th time overall DePaul men’s soccer has received the NSCAA accolade. In 2010, the Blue Demons’ team GPA was ranked No. 8 in the country. In 2012, they were No. 11 in the nation.
Coach Craig Blazer’s side returns to BIG EAST Conference action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. match against Seton Hall at Wish Field.
