Volleyball Takes Winning Streak on the Road

CHICAGO - Riding a three-match winning streak and sole possession of second place in the BIG EAST standings, the DePaul volleyball team hits the road to face Seton Hall and St. John's in a pair of BIG EAST weekend matches.
On Friday, DePaul takes on Seton Hall at 6 p.m. CT. The Blue Demons then head to St. John's on Saturday for a 3 p.m. CT start. The match between DePaul and St. John's will be streamed live on ESPN3.
Colleen Smith now has nine double-doubles on the year and has recorded one in each of the last six matches, including every BIG EAST contest. The senior registered 50 assists and 11 digs in the win over Butler Wednesday night.
Maddie Torti continues to make an impact for the Blue Demons in her first collegiate season. Torti tallied a career-high nine digs against Butler and has 48 digs over 53 sets for the Blue Demons.
Myah Reed is second on the team with 161 kills and a 2.40 kills per set average. Reed secured 21 kills on Wednesday against Butler to mark a new career-high. Reed had just 47 kills in 2015.

Last Time vs. Seton Hall
The DePaul volleyball team closed the weekend by suffering a 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-18, 25-18) loss to Seton Hall on Oct. 24, 2015. Colleen Smith finished the match with 33 assists, passing Christy Landschoot on the all-time career assist leader list for fifth. Smith added eight digs and four total blocks to her night. Callie Huebener secured double-digit kills for the Blue Demons with a team-best 11 kills. Jasmine King totaled seven blocks (one solo, six assisted) to lead DePaul to 14.0 team blocks, a season-best for King and the Blue Demons.
Scouting The Pirates
After starting the BIG EAST season with a loss to Villanova, Seton Hall notched three wins in a row over Butler, Xavier and Georgetown. In its lone match last weekend, Seton Hall lost in four sets at St. John's. Tessa Fournier is tops in the BIG EAST with 5.33 digs per set and has over 300 digs on the season. Danielle Schroeder is the only Pirate in the top-10 for kills per set at 3.06. Seton Hall is hitting just .227 this season and allowing opponents to hit .237, eighth and ninth in the BIG EAST respectively.
Last Time vs. St. John's
DePaul tied the match on two separate occasions on Nov. 15, 2015 at St. John's, but could not complete the comeback as the Blue Demons dropped the five-set result, 3-2 (25-20, 16-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-6). Jasmine King continued her domination in BIG EAST play with a career-high 15 total blocks and 12 kills. That blocking performance would be the best in the BIG EAST for the 2015 season. Brittany Maxwell joined in the block party with nine total blocks, while tallying a team-high 13 kills.
Scouting The Red Storm
St. John's snapped a three-match losing streak in BIG EAST play by defeating Seton Hall last weekend at home. The Red Storm are 11-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Danisha Moss has been a force at the net for St. John's with 1.60 blocks per set to lead the BIG EAST. Moss is also the only BIG EAST student-athlete to have more than 80 blocks on the season with a total of 104. Margherita Bianchin leads the attack for the Red Storm with 3.06 kills per set. St. John's is first in the BIG EAST with 3.02 blocks per set and 199 total blocks. The Red Storm are in the top-three for the BIG EAST in hitting percentage (.255) and opponent hitting percentage (.176).
