Volleyball to Host Weekend BIG EAST Competition

CHICAGO -- The DePaul volleyball teams welcomes St. John's and Seton Hall to McGrath-Phillips Arena for BIG EAST play this weekend. DePaul opens with the Red Storm on Saturday, Nov. 12 and follows with Seton Hall on Sunday, Nov. 13. Both matches begin at noon Central time.
Sunday's game against the Pirates marks Senior Day for the Blue Demons' three seniors, Lexi Chanos, Jasmine King and Colleen Smith.
Chanos has appeared in over 110 matches in her four-year career. This season, she boasts an average of 2.54 digs per set and has contributed to 18 service aces, including a career-high three aces against Providence on Sept., 23.
King has maintained a consistent hitting percentage throughout this season that has propelled her to the top of the BIG EAST standings. She currently boasts a .393 percentage. She is fourth on the team with 211 kills for a 2.09 kills per set average and only 56 errors.
Smith leads the team with 12 double-doubles on the year. She has recorded 987 assists this season for a 9.77 per set average. Smith has established herself as one of the top setters in program history and is third all-time with over 4,000 career assists. She ranks fifth in BIG EAST action with a per set average of 9.72 assists.

Last Time vs. St. John's
DePaul dropped a three-set match against St. John's (25-16, 25-23, 25-22) on Saturday, Oct. 8. Colleen Smith finished the match with a double-double at 27 assists and 10 digs. Haley Bueser recorded 17digs. Myah Reed and Claire Anderson recorded eight kills each. Jasmine King secured five kills and five blocks.
Scouting the Red Storm
St. John's currently sits at 5-10 in conference play after winning a five-set thriller against Georgetown last weekend. Erica Di Maulo is third in the conference with 10.11 assists per set to lead the Red Storm offense. Danisha Moss is second in the BIG EAST in blocks with a total of 63 for an average of 1.31 per set. The Red Storm lead the league in blocks averaging 2.82 per set for a total of 135.5.
Last Time vs. Seton Hall
DePaul won a five-set match against Seton Hall (13-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-23, 15-10) on Friday, Oct. 7. Haley Bueser registered a career-high 24 digs. Colleen Smith finished 59 assists. Claire Anderson added eight digs, six kills, four service aces and two total blocks.
Scouting the Pirates
Seton Hall currently sits at 8-7 in conference play. The Pirates are on a three-match win streak after collecting wins over Villanova and Georgetown last weekend and Providence the weekend before. Seton Hall faces Marquette on Saturday, Nov. 12 before heading to Chicago. The Pirates are led by Danielle Schroeder who has registered 307 kills on the season. She sits eighth in the BIG EAST for kills. As a team, the Pirates sit in fifth in the BIG EAST in digs. They boast 14.76 average per set.
