Final BIG EAST Weekend Ahead for Volleyball

CHICAGO ââ'¬" The DePaul volleyball regular comes down to two final weekend matches at Xavier and Butler. Blue Demons meet Xavier at 6 p.m. CT on Friday, Nov. 18 and follows with Butler on Sunday, Nov. 20 at noon CT.
Caitlyn Coffey produced double-digit kills in both matches last weekend, leading the team against St. John's with 12 kills. Coffey is third on the team with 2.28 kills per set.
Seniors Lexi Chanos, Jasmine King and Colleen Smith play in their final regular season weekend this weekend. Smith has surpassed 1,000 assists this season, while King is first in the BIG EAST for hitting percentage with .406.
Haley Bueser has a chance this weekend to be the only Blue Demon to play in every set of the 2016 season. Bueser leads the team with 290 digs and 2.64 digs per set.

Last Time vs. Xavier
DePaul opened a four-game home stand by dropping a four-set match against Xavier on Wednesday Oct. 12, 3-1 (25-17 25-16, 16-25, 25-21). Colleen Smith finished the match with a double-double at 36 assists and 11 digs for the senior's 11th double-double of the season. Myah Reed led the Blue Demon attack with 16 kills. Brittany Maxwell notched ten kills and three blocks.
Scouting The Musketeers
Xavier is second in the conference for kills per set with 13.85 and third for hitting percentage at .244. Abbey Bessler leads the Musketeers with a 3.74 kills per set average (third in the BIG EAST) and 4.16 points per set (fifth). Alexis Newsome is one of four student-athletes in the conference to average over a 1.00 blocks per set in the conference and is third with a 1.15 average. Newsome also ranks in the top-11 for conference hitting percentage, behind Sofia Peterson on the team in fifth at .347.
Last Time vs. Butler
Going down 2-1 after the third set, the DePaul volleyball team answered by winning the final two sets and defeating Butler, 3-2 (20-25, 25-19, 15-25, 25-20, 15-11), on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Colleen Smith continued her stellar BIG EAST play with her ninth double-double of the season and sixth straight. Smith finished with 50 assists, 11 digs and two blocks. Myah Reed closed the afternoon with a career-high 21 kills on 44 attacks to lead the Blue Demons. Reed hit for a .318 percentage and added two blocks to her stat line.
Scouting the Bulldogs
Anna Logan has been the main attacking force for Butler and leads the conference with 4.40 kills per set. Logan is the only student-athlete in the conference to surpass the 500-kill mark this season and is 25th in the BIG EAST for hitting percentage (.249). Butler is the only team in the BIG EAST to not have a student-athlete in the top-20 in hitting percentage. Taylor Takeda is tops on Butler with a 4.07 digs per set average and ranks fourth in the BIG EAST.
