CHICAGO - DePaul sophomore Eli Cain was honored today with a selection to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Cain averaged 29.0 points per game in two contests last week that included career-high scoring totals in both games.
The Willingboro, N.J. native averaged 29.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game against UIC and Chicago State while shooting .629 (22-35) from the field and .611 (11-18) from three-point range.
He totaled 27 points against UIC with four rebounds and blocked a shot. The 27 points were a new career high as he went 11-for-20 from the field overall and 4-of-7 from three-point range.
That career high scoring total didn't last long as Cain scored 31 points with four rebounds, four assists, two steals and a blocked shot against Chicago State. He went 11-for-15 from the field and 7-of-11 from behind the arc. The seven three's are tied for the second-highest single-game total in school history and one shy of matching the school record of eight in a game set by Draelon Burns against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Nov. 28, 2008.
Overall this season, Cain has scored at least 20 points in seven of 10 games and his scoring average of 21.1 points per game leads all players in the BIG EAST.
Butler's Kelan Martin was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week while his teammate Kamar Baldwin was the league's Freshman of the Week. Cain was joined on the honor roll by Georgetown's L.J. Peak, Angel Delgado from Seton Hall, Josh Hart of Villanova and Xavier's Trevon Bluiett.
The Blue Demons return to action tonight at Allstate Arena as they host Southeast Missouri State. Start time is 8 p.m. in Rosemont and the game can also be seen on FS1 and heard on WYLL 1160 AM.
