Schulte Fuels No. 22 DePaul's 100-68 Win Over UT-Martin

CHICAGO - Brooke Schulte scored a career-high 27 points and the No. 22 DePaul women's basketball rolled past Tennessee-Martin 100-68 Tuesday night at McGrath-Phillips Arena. The Blue Demons have won two straight heading into BIG EAST Conference play and improve to 8-4. UT-Martin falls to 3-9.
Schulte's career-high marked the most points scored by a BIG EAST Conference player this season and came on a career-best 12-of-16 from the field. The senior also added seven rebounds, an assist and steal.
Jessica January finished with 12 points, eight assists and six rebounds. Claire McMahon scored a career-high 12 points and Amarah Coleman contributed 10 points.
The Blue Demons, who were in command of the game from the opening tip shot 50 percent from the field, marking the second-straight game DePaul has shot 50 percent or better from the field. With the offense firing on all cylinders, the Blue Demons dished out 27 assists while nine players had at least one assist in the game.
Schulte made her first five shots and had 10 points in the first five minutes. The senior guard contributed to a 17-2 run in the first quarter that included three consecutive jumpers by Amarah Coleman and five January points which led to a 31-12 margin after the first quarter.
Back-to-back Schulte three-point plays early in the second quarter ignited a 13-0 Blue Demon burst that put the home team ahead by 30. Claire McMahon connected three times from beyond the arc while January and Deja Cage also hit from long distance.
UT-Martin was down by 24 when DePaul closed out the second quarter on an 11-2 run for a 58-25 lead at halftime. Schulte already had 17 points by intermission.
The Skyhawks were led by Kendall Spray with 17 points and six rebounds. The Blue Demons were up 79-46 after three quarters and Chante Stonewall's steal and three-point play in the final minute put DePaul at the century mark for the second consecutive game and third time this season.
DePaul returns to action and begins BIG EAST Conference play at Georgetown on Dec. 28. The Blue Demons and Hoyas tip at 1 p.m. (CT) at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas enter league play 8-2 and have not played a game since Dec. 11.
Notes:
- Schulte's 27 points are the most by a BIG EAST Player this season... her 12 field goals are also the most by a league player this year... she finished 12-of-16 from the field... Schulte scored 17 points in the first half on 7-of-11 shooting... she played just 26 minutes.
- DePaul shot 50 percent or better for the fourth time this season and for the second straight game.
- DePaul eclipsed the 20-assist mark for the seventh time this season.
- Ten of DePaul's available players scored in the win.
- DePaul outrebounded the Skyhawks 48-32 and forced 24 turnovers.
