No. 22 DePaul Tops Georgetown 76-53

WASHINGTON, D.C. - No. 22 DePaul opened its BIG EAST season with a bang Wednesday at McDonough Memorial Gymnasium.
The Blue Demons topped talented Georgetown 76-53 for their third win in a row. Amarah Coleman led the way with 16 points while Tanita Allen came through with career highs in points (14) and rebounds (11).
Brooke Schulte contributed a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards while Jacqui Grant just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.
The Hoyas were within 39-36 early in the third quarter when DePaul (9-4, 1-0) took command. A surge led by Brooke Schulte, Amarah Coleman and Tanita Allen had the Blue Demons closing out the quarter on a 21-6 run.
That sent them into the final 10 minutes ahead 60-42. DePaul sustained the attack into the fourth quarter and led 74-50 at the 4:50 mark. Georgetown dropped to 8-3 overall and 0-1 in conference.
Coleman opened the game hitting three shots in a row as the Blue Demons shot out to an early lead. Georgetown responded with six unanswered points, closing out the first quarter on an 11-4 run for a 21-18 lead.
Both teams were playing at breakneck speed as they took a combined 76 shots in the first half. Dionna White was effective driving to the basket and from the perimeter and had 16 points by intermission.
Coleman, Jacqui Grant and Chante Stonewall were in foul trouble and sat much of the second quarter. Jessica January's three-pointer with 27 seconds left send DePaul into its halftime locker room with a 37-34 lead. Coleman had nine points at the break.
DePaul is on the road to face Villanova on Friday.
