Box Score: Northwestern 80, DePaul 64
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Playing in its first road game of the 2016-17 season, DePaul fell to Northwestern Saturday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena, 80-64. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for the Blue Demons.
Darrick Wood led the Blue Demons with 15 points on 6-12 shooting from the field. Wood added a team-high eight rebounds and two assists. Billy Garrett Jr. and Joe Hanel also reached double-digit scores with 11 points each.
Eli Cain had two early baskets in the game and DePaul trailed by just one at the 16:07 mark in the first half. Northwestern went on a large run midway through the first half that held the Blue Demons scoreless for almost four minutes. Cain had nine points at the half and DePaul was down going into halftime.
The Blue Demons opened the second with a steal from Devin Gage. Gage was fouled on the other end and made both free throws. Northwestern sunk a three-point shot at 15:51 and that was the last field goal the Wildcats would have until the 10:17 mark.
During that span, DePaul went on a 14-3 run. Chris Harrison-Docks hit DePaul's first three pointer of the game with 10:49 left in the second half to cap that run.
Another run of 13-3 by DePaul later in the half cut the Northwestern lead to 24. The Blue Demons took the Northwestern advantage to as low as 16 before suffering the first road loss of the season. DePaul outscored the Wildcats 46-26 in the second half.
DePaul returns home in its next game against Lamar at Allstate Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 6. The home game is set to begin at 8 p.m. CT and broadcast on FSN and UToo.
