CHICAGO - The indoor track and field season continues for DePaul as the teams split their time this weekend between the Hoosier Hills Invite and the Chicagoland Indoor Championships. The Hoosier Hills Invite is scheduled to take place on Friday, Feb. 12, while the Chicagoland Championships are on Friday and Saturday.
DePaul's field athletes will be busy in Bloomington, Ind. on Friday as the Blue Demons have a participant in all but one of the field events. Brian Mada, coming off a PR performance at the Meyo Invitational, competes in the men's triple jump as the reigning BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week. Gabrielle Howard (long jump, triple jump) and Caroline Muller (high jump) are set to jump for the women's team.
Simone Carr used the Meyo Invitational last weekend to post new season-best times in the 200m (25.33) and 400m (57.01) events. The sophomore looks to carry that momentum into this weekend for the women's 400m. She joins teammates Julie Dambra and Laura Edwards in the run.
In the men's 60m hurdles, Kyle Decker, Jarvis Hill and Evan Lowry return to the event after marking new personal records last weekend. Lowry had the best improvement among the three with a time that was .12 seconds faster.
The women's 60m hurdles feature two DePaul freshmen in Ariel Davis and Alexia Harvey. Davis is the school record holder in the hurdles after hitting a time of 8.752 at the Blue & Gold Invitational.
The Chicagoland Indoor Championships are held in Naperville, Ill. and feature plenty of DePaul's middle-distance and distance runners. Friday's events begin at 5 p.m. and exclusively for the women's side, while Saturday is for the men's side.
Lauren Sharp, Caroline Kurdej and Miranda Rea give DePaul a strong trio in the mile event. All three have competed in the same event at least twice this year.
The men's 800m race has five Blue Demons competing in it. Regen Hatcher returns to the 800m after setting a new personal record his last time out at the Notre Dame Invitational (1:58.56).
Events at the Hoosier Hills Invite begin at 2:45 p.m. CT on Friday. Running events at the Chicagoland Championships begin at 5 p.m. CT on Friday and pick back up at 11:30 a.m. CT on Saturday.
Full results and recaps for this weekend's meets will be posted at the end of each day on DePaulBlueDemons.com.
