CHICAGO -- For the third time this year and second week in a row, Brian Mada of DePaul track and field garnered the BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
Mada, coming off a top-10 performance last week at the Meyo Invitational, jumped at the Hoosier Hills Invitational on Friday. The freshman set a new PR in the event when he hit a mark of 15.07 meters (49' 5.5") in his second attempt and won the event.
Mada's mark is best in the BIG EAST by 1.15 meters. He recorded the second-longest indoor jump in the conference dating back to the 2013-14 season. Mada is just the second student-athlete in the BIG EAST to break the 15-meter mark in the last three years. The DePaul jumper currently ranks 76th in the nation for the event.
DePaul has now won four out of the six BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week honors this season with Mada's three awards and Trevor Kintyhtt's award from the first week of the season. Mada is also the first student-athlete to win three track and field weekly accolades this year for the conference.
Mada and the Blue Demons begin preparations for the BIG EAST Championships on Feb. 26 and 27. Visit DePaulBlueDemons.com for more information on the conference meet.
