ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The DePaul men's tennis team dropped its first match of the weekend 6-1 to New Mexico on Friday in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The Blue Demons (3-6) recorded two doubles wins, but failed to record a singles victory. The Lobos now hold a 3-10 record with their win.
In doubles play, Jan-Willem Feilzer and Alex Galoustian defeated Rodolfo Jauregui and Agustus Ge 6-3 at No. 2 as Sten Leusink and Nathan de Veer bested Ricky Hernandez-Tong and Jorge Escutia 6-4 at No. 3. Paul John and Conor O'Meara fell at No. 1 to No. 16 Hayden Sabatka and Bart Van Leijsen 6-2.
In singles action, Leusink dropped his match at No. 1 to Sabatka 6-2, 6-2, Galoustian at No. 2 to Van Leijsen 6-2, 6-4, John at No. 3 to Jorge Escutia 6-4, 6-2 and Feilzer to Sean Baklini 7-6, 7-5 at No. 6.
Nathan de Veer and Kyle Johnson only played in singles competition today as de Veer fell at No. 4 to Hernandez-Tong 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (13-11) and Johnson at No. 5 to Agustus Ge 6-3, 6-3.
DePaul is back at the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium tomorrow to take on No. 53 Utah at 11 a.m.
