Outdoor Season Set To Begin with 49er Classic

CHICAGO - The DePaul track and field teams open the outdoor season this weekend at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C. on Friday, March 18 and Saturday, March 19. This weekend will be the first time the Blue Demons are in action since the BIG EAST Indoor Championships.
Friday of the 49er Classic begins with the women's hammer throw at 10 a.m. CT. The track events are set to start at Noon CT with the short-distance hurdle prelims. On Saturday, both the track and the field events start at 9 a.m. CT.
Sebastian Feyersinger and Tayler Whittler make their outdoor season debut after earning multiple conference championships last time out. Feyersinger earned first place in the 200m, 400m and helped to win gold in the 4x400 relay at the BIG EAST Championship. Whittler claimed the title of fastest woman at the BIG EAST Championship by winning the 60m and 200m events.
With the start of the outdoor season, the Blue Demons send multiple throwers to compete in the hammer, discus and shot put events. The DePaul throwers participating this weekend include Blake Thompson, Trevor Kintyhtt, Kyle Hedge and Isaac Jimenez for the men and Corinne Franz and Sarah Moss for the women.
Plenty of Blue Demon freshmen make their outdoor debuts this weekend. Ariel Davis opened her indoor season with a school record in the 60m hurdles and had some of the best times in the event for the BIG EAST. Kyle Decker won the 60m hurdles on the men's side for the BIG EAST in his first appearance at the Conference Championships.
Other DePaul freshmen competing this weekend include Caroline Muller, Laura Edwards, Christine Mujica, Alexia Harvey and Jessica Watkins for the women and Isaac Walker, Brian Mada and Evan Lowry for the men.
