CHICAGO - The DePaul men's tennis team snapped a two-match losing streak with a 6-1 win over Chicago State Saturday evening at home on the courts of the Lakeshore Sport & Fitness Center.
DePaul (6-13, 1-0 BIG EAST) now holds an overall 8-0 record over the Cougars (2-14) with the win.
Senior Paul John and junior Nathan de Veer won both their singles and doubles matches to lead the Blue Demons.
John paired with Conor O'Meara at No. 1 doubles for a 6-3 victory over Gabriel Niculescu and Christian Gonzalez. de Veer and Sten Leusink secured DePaul's doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 2 over Felix Savard and Rohan Wattley. Due to Chicago State only having five players, Alex Galoustian and Jan-Willem Feilzer's match at No. 3 was a default.
In singles, John bested Wattley at No. 5 6-2, 6-3 as de Veer won against Gonzalo Martinez 5-7, 6-3 (10-8) at No. 4. Galoustian notched a win at No. 2 against Savard 6-1, 6-4. Feilzer defeated Gonzalez at No. 3 6-2, 7-5.
Leusink was the lone DePaul player to drop his singles match, falling 6-3, 4-6 (10-7) to Niculescu at No. 1.
The No. 6 singles match defaulted due to the Cougars having five players.
Up next, DePaul prepares to close out the rest of its regular season with all BIG EAST conference matches beginning with Xavier at home on Friday, April 8 at 6:15 p.m. CT.
