CHICAGO - After taking last weekend off from competition, the DePaul track and field teams head to Glen Ellyn, Ill. for the Chicagoland Championships on Saturday, April 9. Events begin at 10 a.m. CT with the discus throw and the 4x800 relay.
For the field events, the Blue Demons are represented in the discus, shot put, hammer and the high jump. The mid-distance and distance runners will be busy as DePaul has at least one student-athlete competing in the 1500m, 3000m steeplechase, 5000m and the 10,000m.
The women's throwers enjoyed a strong start to the season. Freshman Emily Eller broke the school record in the shot with a throw of 14.33 meters at the Black & Gold Invitational and currently sits in 53rd in the West region rankings. Sarah Moss ranks 63rd in the West for the discus after reaching 46.87 meters last time out. Eller and Moss throw Saturday, joining Corinne Franz.
There are plenty of debuts set to take place on Saturday for the Blue Demons. Freshman Daniel Peterson runs the 3000m steeplechase for the first time after competing in the 2000m steeplechase at the Black & Gold Invitational, finishing eighth at 6:20.18. Steve McEvilly makes his outdoor season debut for DePaul in the 5000m where he runs alongside James Ryan and Jake Pecorin.
Five women's distance runners are in action on Saturday between the 5000m and 10,000m. Courtney Tedeschi, Jessica Harris (first collegiate outdoor meet), Katerina Cirone and Sabrina Olsen run in the 5000m, while Paige Skorseth takes her place in the 10,000m.
Three men's throwers rank in the top 100 for the West region over three events. Trevor Kintyhtt is 48th in the hammer (56.98 meters) and 74th in the discus (49.91 meters). Blake Thompson joins Kintyhtt in the discus West top-100 in 58th at 50.96 meters. Kyle Hedge sits in 65th for the men's shot put with a mark of 16.35 meters. The DePaul trio throws this weekend.
Regen Hatcher and Andrew Diehn compete for the first time this season in the 1500m. Hatcher has a PR of 4:09.70 in the event, while Diehn is right behind at 4:14.97. For the women's 1500m, the event features Caroline Kurdej, Christine Mujica and Lauren Sharp. Kurdej and Sharp are making their season debut on Saturday.
A pair of Blue Demon high jumpers looks to improve on their season marks on Saturday. Scott Midgett and Caroline Muller represent DePaul in the event and both make their outdoor season debut.
