LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the Team Academic Award for the 2015-16 season and the DePaul volleyball team was among the 132 NCAA Division I teams to receive the honor.
After the announcement earlier this week, DePaul has now earned the AVCA Team Academic Award nine straight years and 10 of the last 11 years.
The Blue Demons are one of six BIG EAST teams to take home the honor. Creighton, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall and Villanova join DePaul in representing the conference.
This year, the AVCA announced 764 teams earned the award. This number breaks the previous year's total of 757 to set an all-time high.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
DePaul and head coach Nadia Edwards open the 2016-17 season in the Northern Illinois Invitational on Aug. 26-27. The Blue Demons take on Loyola (noon CT) and Northern Illinois (7 p.m. CT) for the first day of the invitational.
