Cross Country Completes Friday at ISU Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. - The DePaul cross country teams continued their seasons at the 2016 ISU Country Financial Cross Country Invitational on Friday. Paige Skorseth led the women's squad in the harsh conditions, while James Ryan had the top finish on the men's side.
Skorseth turned out her second top-team finish of the 2016 season for the Blue Demons with a time of 19:05.06 for a 41st-place finish. Freshman Batya Beard was the next DePaul runner across the line at 19:17.36 for 45th in the women's 5k. Jessica Harris rounded out DePaul's top-three finishers with a time of 19:22.45 in 49th place.
Lauren Sharp and Sabrina Olsen capped off DePaul top-five finishers. Sharp finished with a time of 19:28.81 for 62nd, while Olsen placed 65th at 19:35.76.
On the men's side, Ryan claimed DePaul's best finish of the meet by crossing the finish line at 26:13.16 in 30th. Alex Campanella placed 34th at the invite at 26:25.38 and was DePaul's second-highest finisher. Junior Jeremy Lozano followed right behind in 35th at 26:25.65.
Chris Korabik notched a 41st-place finish at 26:30.81 and Jake Pecorin recorded a time of 26:58.13 to secure top-five team finishes Friday.
As a team, the women placed ninth in the team standings out of 10 teams with 248 points. The women beat out Western Illinois (277).
The men's team finished eighth at the invite with 185 points. DePaul outlasted Western Illinois at 274 points.
The DePaul men's and women's cross country teams turn their focus to the National Catholic Championships in South Bend, Ind., hosted by Notre Dame on Sept. 16. Races at the National Catholic Championships are scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m. CT.
