NEW YORK - A strong weekend performance by DePaul volleyball's Brittany Maxwell at the DePaul Invitational landed the sophomore on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, announced Monday afternoon by the conference office.
Maxwell closed the weekend with a team-high 55 kills and a 3.93 kills per set average. Committing just 11 errors on 117 attacks, the sophomore registered a .376 hitting percentage and now boasts a 3.62 season kills per set average. She helped the Blue Demons to a 2-1 record in the home invitational.
"This is a well-deserved recognition for Brittany," said head coach Nadia Edwards. "Week by week she has proven to be consistent in her play and continues to lead this team in scoring points offensively, on the block and from the service line."
The Macomb, Mich. native opened the DePaul Invitational with a season-high 19 kills against a previously undefeated USF squad. Maxwell helped the Blue Demons to a five-set victory over the Bulls. She added three service aces and three blocks to her Friday night.
On Saturday against Albany, Maxwell improved her season-best kill total and tied her career-high with 21 kills in just four sets and led DePaul to the win over the Great Danes. Maxwell closed her weekend with 15 kills and seven digs in the final match of the DePaul Invitational against UIC.
"I am excited to see her finish preseason play on a high note this weekend and bring that level of play into conference," stated Edwards.
Maxwell currently sits in seventh among BIG EAST student-athletes in kills per set and sixth in hitting percentage at .347. For points per set, Maxwell ranks sixth with 4.27 points per set.
DePaul and Maxwell begin prepping for the final invitational of the season with the Spartan Classic. The Blue Demons are set to face Maryland Eastern Shore, Notre Dame and Michigan State in the two-day invitational.
