Top-10 Finishes Help DePaul to Second at Badger Classic

MADISON, Wis. - The DePaul men's cross country team competed at the Badger Classic Friday and came away with a runner-up team finish thanks to top-10 finishes by Chris Korabik and Alex Campanella.
DePaul ran against strong competition from host Wisconsin, Northern Iowa and Illinois State. Wisconsin took the first four places on the 6k course before Korabik came across the line for the Blue Demons in fifth at 19:05.1. Campanella followed in seventh at 19:12.1.
"Today was another step forward for our men this afternoon," said assistant coach Derrick Peterson. "The focus of the meet was on our motto for the season, Better Together."
After the first nine runners crossed the finish line, it was tight race for the rest of the field until the end. Jeremy Lozano and Salomon Wright secured two top-15 finishes to help solidify DePaul's place in second. Lozano placed 11th with a time of 19:20.1 and Wright completed the course in 19:27.8 for 13th.
Jake Pecorin rounded out DePaul's top-five runners in 18th with a time of 19:37.5. Pecorin's place clinched second place in the team standings for DePaul with a final score of 54 points.
The men's team takes next weekend off, while the women's team returns to action in the Notre Dame Invitational. Races at the Notre Dame Invitational begin at 1 p.m. CT.
