Grant, Schulte Lead Blue Demons to 10th Win in a Row

CHICAGO - All No. 21/20 DePaul did on Sunday was establish the longest winning streak since the 2010-11 season.
An 85-69 victory over Xavier gave the Blue Demons 10 in a row---including a program-best, 8-0 start in the BIG EAST Conference. DePaul (16-4, 8-0) also had 10-game winning streaks in 2006-07 and 2007-08.
Brooke Schulte led the way with 28 points and a season-high 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. She opened the game connecting on nine of her first 10 shots.
Jacqui Grant came through with 17 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks for her seventh double-double of the season. Amarah Coleman pitched in with 15 points while Kelly Campbell contributed 11 points.
Schulte and Campbell shot their team to an early lead. Schulte made five of her first six shots while Campbell hit back-to-back 3-pointers. Schulte was also assigned to defend Xavier's best player, Raeshaun Gaffney.
Xavier (10-8, 2-5) closed out the first quarter on a 6-0 run to draw within 21-20 after the first 10 minutes.
Schulte continued her torrid shooting, converting eight of her first nine shots. Her 10 points ignited a 20-2 run that secured a 45-25 lead midway through the second quarter. In addition, the senior guard was well on her way to a double-double with eight rebounds.
It was 48-30 at halftime at which point Schulte already had 20 points and nine boards. Grant went into the break with nine points and seven rebounds.
Schulte made her first two shots of the second half, but Gaffney brought the Musketeers within 56-44 midway through the third quarter. She would finish with 22 points. DePaul closed out the quarter with an 8-3 burst to lead 64-47 going into the final 10 minutes.
A Schulte basket off a nice feed from Coleman made it 77-54 with more than six minutes to go. That gave Schulte 28 points.
The Blue Demons return to action Saturday to face Marquette at McGrath-Phillips Arena.

- During the 10-game winning streak, the Blue Demons' average margin of victory is 26.5 points.
- They won 10-straight in 2006-07 and 2007-08. The 2004-05 team won 14 in a row.
- DePaul has opened the BIG EAST season 8-0 for the first time in program history.
- Schulte has reached double figures in scoring the last 10 games. She is averaging 22.7 points in her last six games.
- Schulte came away with her second double-double of the season while Grant recorded her seventh. It was the second time DePaul had a pair of double-doubles in a game this season.
- The Blue Demons are 13-1 in the all-time season series with Xavier and 7-0 at home.
