
DePaul Knocks Off Portland in PK80

PORTLAND, Ore. -- DePaul led for all but 27 seconds in an 82-69 win over Portland to conclude the PK80 Invitational. Marin Maric compiled a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double and Max Strus scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Blue Demons.
Tre'Darius McCallum started the game with back-to-back three-pointers and the Blue Demons quickly jumped to an early lead they would hold for the entire game. Strus knocked down one of his five first-half three's to give DePaul its first double-digit advantage just under eight minutes into the game.
DePaul (2-4) led by as many as 20 points late in the game, but Portland threatened once in the second half pulling to within seven points midway through the half.
Following a three by Franklin Porter to make the score 64-57, the Blue Demons scored 10 straight points over the next two-plus minutes to put the game away for good. A three-pointer by Maric gave the Blue Demons an 80-60 lead with 4:17 left on the clock.
Strus totaled six three's en route to his first 20-point game as a Blue Demon. He added four rebounds and three assists while McCallum totaled 15 points and five boards. Maric's double-double was his first in a DePaul uniform and Jaylen Butz came off the bench for a career-high 11 points.
Portland (2-4) was led by Porter's 16 points and 15 points from March Shave Jr.
DePaul returns to Wintrust Arena on Saturday, Dec. 2 against Youngstown State. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
Postgame Notes
- DePaul extended its streak to 745 straight games with a three-pointer.
- The 12 three-pointers set a new season high... DePaul's eight three-pointers in the first half surpassed the previous mark of six three's at Illinois on Nov. 17.
- DePaul put four players in double-figures for the fifth time in six games this season.
- Jaylen Butz registered his first career game in double-figures.
- Marin Maric recorded his first double-double at DePaul and the 28th of his career... it was also his 30th career game with 10 or more rebounds.
- Max Strus has scored in double-figures in all six games this season.
- DePaul is 6-0 all-time against Portland... Sunday was the first meeting since February 1965.
