WASHINGTON, D.C. - Two free throws by Billy Garrett Jr. with two-tenths of a second left secured a 67-65 win for DePaul at Georgetown on Wednesday night. Garrett totaled 15 points while R.J. Curington scored 14 off the bench for the Blue Demons.
The Blue Demons started slow and trailed by 14 points midway through the first half. A three-pointer Rodney Pryor put the Hoyas up 27-13 with 9:06 left in the first half.
Chris Harrison-Docks and Garrett knocked down three's on DePaul's next two possessions to kickstart a 30-9 run that covered the final nine minutes of the first half and the start of the second half. Eli Cain scored the first four points after halftime to give the Blue Demons their largest lead of the game less than two minutes into the second half.
Following a Jessie Govan bucket on Georgetown's next possession neither team would lead by more than five points over the remainder of the night.
Tre'Darius McCallum setup Garrett's heroics as the junior forward scored nine straight points for DePaul in the final five minutes. McCallum tied the score at 65-65 with 29 seconds left after Eli Cain stole the ball and found him on a 2-on-1 fast break.
Georgetown's next possession saw the Blue Demons force a three-pointer as the shot clock expired and Garrett went the length of the floor to get fouled and make the game-winning free throws.
Garrett added four assists for DePaul (9-19, 2-13 BIG EAST) while McCallum totaled 13 points and seven rebounds to join Curington in double-figures.
Georgetown (14-14, 5-10 BIG EAST) was led by 18 points by Govan and 14 from Pryor.
DePaul returns to Allstate Arena on Saturday to face Seton Hall. Start time in Rosemont is scheduled for 1 p.m. and DePaul's 2017 Hall of Fame class will be honored at halftime.
