Softball Falls to Butler in Game Two

INDIANAPOLIS- DePaul softball dropped its second game at Butler on Saturday afternoon 7-4.
DePaul's (14-13) Megan Leyva and Jessica Cothern led the team with two hits each. Leyva went 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs. Cothern went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI. Brianna Viles tallied the Blue Demons' final run.
Kennedy Garcia suffered the loss in the circle. She pitched for three and one-third innings. She struck out three and allowed five earned runs on nine hits.
Kaitlin Doud earned the win for Butler (12-17).
The Bulldogs got on board first in the first inning. DePaul fielding errors allowed leadoff batter Maggie MacBeth to reach first and advance to second. She scored off a single from Madi Christiansen.
DePaul responded with a run in the top of the second. Doud walked Leyva who reached third after Krista Dalgarn notched a sacrifice bunt. Leyva scored following a sacrifice fly from Cothern.
Butler pulled ahead the following inning with bases loaded and two outs. Cheyenne Thompson singled to center, scoring the runner on third.
The Blue Demons scored two runs in the fourth. With Leyva on second and Cothern on first, Alysia Rodriguez hit a RBI single to right center, scoring Leyva. Erin Andris followed right after with another single to score Cothern.
Bulldogs regained their lead for good in the bottom of the fourth with five runs. With bases loaded, Brandyce Sallee singled up the middle and scored the two runners from second and third. Dalgarn replaced Garcia in the circle following the play, but Christiansen followed with a line out to right field, scoring another Bulldog from third. A two-run homer from Christina Candotti tallied Butler's sixth and seventh runs of the game.
DePaul notched its fourth run in the top of the sixth. With two outs and Viles on first, Dylan Christensen doubled to right center to plate the sophomore home.
Dalgarn faced four batters and allowed one earned run on two hits.
Kayla Landwehrmier pitched the fifth and sixth inning for DePaul. She faced six batters.
