Women's Tennis Continues BIG EAST Play Out East

CHICAGO - DePaul women's tennis travels out east for two BIG EAST matches this weekend. The Blue Demons face Villanova on Friday, April 7 at 11 a.m. Central time on the courts of the Villanova Tennis Complex and Georgetown on Saturday, April 8 at 1 p.m. at the Yates Field House.
DePaul (9-6, 1-1 BIG EAST) enters the weekend on a five-match win streak. The squad etched a 4-3 finish over Xavier last weekend at home.
No. 125 Yuliya Shupenia notched the fourth point in the win to earn her fourth singles match victory in a row. Freshmen Aspasia Avgeri and Florence Abbott also post singles win streaks, Avgeri's being five and Abbott's four straight. Together, the three have combined for 25 of DePaul's 51 singles victories in the dual campaign.
Villanova (3-14, 0-2 BIG EAST) won its last two matches 7-0 over Loyola Maryland and La Salle. The Blue Demons and Wildcats have not faced one another since 2014 in the quarterfinal round of the BIG EAST Conference Tournament. DePaul blanked Villanova 4-0.
Georgetown (10-4, 0-1 BIG EAST) boasts a two-match win streak after defeating George Mason and Towson last week. Sara Swift leads the Hoyas with 11 singles victories in dual action, including a 6-0 mark at the No. 2 spot. She is 8-2 in her last 10 matches.
DePaul and Georgetown met twice last season, once in the regular season and in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Conference Tournament. The Blue Demons won both matches with a 6-1 finish during the regular campaign and a 4-0 mark at the tournament.
