DePaul Completes Series Sweep Over Creighton

CHICAGO - Three runs in the bottom of the sixth lifted DePaul softball to the series sweep over Creighton on Sunday afternoon at Cacciatore Stadium. The Blue Demons defeated the Bluejays 6-3 in their regular season finale.
DePaul's (27-21, 12-7 BIG EAST) Ana Greik led the squad with two runs. She joined fellow seniors Micah Fitzgerald, Dylan Christensen and Nicole Pihl as the Blue Demons to notch the teams four hits.
Kennedy Garcia earned her 11th win in the circle. She replaced Missy Zoch in the start of the fourth with the game tied 3-3. She struck out four and allowed two hits in the 11 batters she faced.
Zoch struck out seven and allowed three earned runs on three hits out of 17 batters.
Bryana Clark suffered the loss for Creighton (18-32, 8-13 BIG EAST).
The two teams stayed locked at zero until the Bluejays tallied three runs in the top of the fourth. After a single and an error put Creighton's first two batters on first and third, Ashley Cantu singled to plate the runner from third home for the first run. Another DePaul error put the Bluejays in the scoring path as Sam Dellinger notched a RBI single. O'Gorman followed Dellinger with another RBI single to for Creighton to record its final run.
The Blue Demons tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. With pinch runner Celeste Franco on third, Greik on second and Micah Fitzgerald on first, Dylan Christensen hit a RBI single to score Franco. A fielder's choice by Creighton in the next at bat allowed Jessica Cothern to reach base and Greik to tally her first run of the game. Pihl stepped to the plate next and hit a RBI single to the shortstop, plating Fitzgerald home.
Creighton threatened in the top of the sixth, but the Blue Demons escaped, stranding two base runners.
DePaul made its move in the sixth to grab the lead for good. With bases loaded and one out, Fitzgerald singled to right field, scoring pinch runner Kayla Landwehrmier home. Dylan Christensen was hit by new pitcher Michal Hylton in the next at bat, advancing all Blue Demons on base for Sabrina Kuchta to record a run. Cothern was then walked for Greik to come around and score the final run of the game.
Up next, DePaul heads to the 2017 BIG EAST Softball Tournament presented by Jeep as the No. 2 seed. The Blue Demons are scheduled to face No. 3 Villanova on Friday, May 12 at 3 p.m. CT at The Ballpark in Rosemont. All games will be broadcast on FS2.
