CHICAGO - After opening BIG EAST play with three matches (1-2), the Blue Demons are back this week at BIG EAST contestants Butler and Marquette. The DePaul volleyball team travels to Indianapolis to challenge Butler on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. CT. DePaul then travels to conference rival, Marquette on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. CT.
Last Time vs. Butler
The 2016 DePaul volleyball season came to a close Sunday, Nov. 20 as the Blue Demons fell to Butler on the road, 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-19). Myah Reed led DePaul with seven kills on a team high 25 attempts, along with one block and one dig.
Scouting The Bulldogs
Butler claims their (11-3, 1-1 BIG EAST) record after a 1-1 BIG EAST start to the season. The Bulldogs lost to Marquette, 0-3 and defeated Xavier, 3-1 last week. Adding four new faces in 2017, Butler was picked fourth in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll. The Bulldogs finished fifth in the 2016 BIG EAST conference run with a 9-9 conference record.
Last Time vs. Marquette
The DePaul volleyball team dropped a three-set match (25-21, 25-20, 25-17) at Marquette on Saturday, Nov. 5. Claire Anderson and Caitlyn Coffey led the Blue Demons attack with eight kills apiece. Anderson finished with seven digs and a block. Haley Bueser led DePaul's defense with a game-high 12 digs.
Scouting The Golden Eagles
Marquette starts off the 2017 BIG EAST campaign with a (9-5, 3-0 BIG EAST) record, making them the top pick after week one of BIG EAST play. The Golden Eagles came away from BIG EAST opening weekend with 3-0 sweeps to Butler, Seton Hall, and St. John's. With seven freshmen and eight total newcomers in 2017, Marquette was voted third in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll. The Golden Eagles have punched their ticket to six-straight NCAA tournaments and finished second in the BIG EAST 2016 season with a 13-5 conference record.
