CHICAGO -- Tre'Darius McCallum led five Blue Demons in double-figures with 16 points, but DePaul couldn't overcome a slow start in an 86-70 loss against Seton Hall. The Blue Demons moved to within eight points with eight minutes left in the second half before the Pirates pulled away for the conference win.
Seton Hall (16-5, 5-3 BIG EAST) took an early 6-0 lead three minutes into the game before DePaul answered and outscored the Pirates, 11-2, with a jumper by Max Strus making the score 11-8.
The Pirates then scored eight straight points only to see the Blue Demons come back once more as Justin Roberts converted a four-point play with 9:34 on the clock to bring DePaul within two points of Seton Hall.
After a dunk by McCallum made the score 34-27, Seton Hall reeled off 10 straight points to build a double-digit lead and took a 46-31 advantage into intermission.
DePaul (9-12, 2-7 BIG EAST) went on a 9-0 run making the score 66-58 with just over eight minutes left in the game. A three-pointer from the corner by Eli Cain bounced twice on the rim and dropped in followed by a rebound and put back for McCallum pulled DePaul to within eight, but Seton Hall scored eight of the game's next nine points to take control for good.
Seton Hall pushed its lead as high as 18 points late in the game before Brandon Cyrus' final basket made the score 86-70. Myles Powell led Seton Hall with 21 points while Angel Delgado finished with 10 points and 19 rebounds.
McCallum added six rebounds to his team-high 16 points while Cain finished with 11 points and six assists. Cyrus, Marin Maric and Roberts each finished with 10 points. Maric grabbed seven rebounds while Cyrus added five boards and two steals.
DePaul is off until Saturday when the Blue Demons travel to Indianapolis to take on Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Start time is Noon ET on FS1 and WSCR 670 AM.
