DePaul Visits St. John's Saturday

FIrst of a two-match road swing
CHICAGOÂ - DePaul men's soccer hits the road to the Big Apple for a 6:00 pm Saturday evening clash with the St. John's Red Storm. They are looking to secure three more BIG EAST points with just three games remaining in the regular season.Â
Last Time Out
The DePaul men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision against Butler Saturday at Wish Field. The Blue Demons' lone goal was scored by defender Max de Bruijne - his second of the season. DePaul sits at 4-7-2 overall and 1-3-1 in BIG EAST play. After an energetic first half that saw four shots apiece, DePaul struck first in the 59th minute. Zach El-Shafei sent a free kick over to Jake Fuderer, who sent it in before it bounced back to him. He headed the ball to Jack Richards who headed towards de Bruijne who sent it in for the goal. After a DePaul handball in the box, the Bulldogs evened it up at 1-1 in the 67th minute. Logan Lee scored his first goal of the season for Butler just six minutes later in the 87th before by Brandon Guhl added an insurance goal in the 86th minute for his seventh of the season.
About Those Blue Demons (4-7-2, 1-3-1 BIG EAST)
DePaul's offense is led by Istvan Wilhelms with three goals and senior captain Harry Hilling with three assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Drew Nuelle has 49 saves this season in the net playing over 1,100 minutes with a 1.16 goals against average alongside a save percentage of 0.765. The Blue Demons opened the 2018 BIG EAST campaign with a statement win over Providence. They earned a draw against Seton Hall and fell to Georgetown, Villanova and Butler.Â
Looking ahead towards the playoffs, DePaul is currently sitting tied with Seton Hall for seventh in the conference standings - just one spot out of playoff contention.Â
Scouting the Johnnies (6-6-1, 2-2-1 BIG EAST)
The Red Storm most recently fell to Marquette and sit with two wins in league play. St. John's is tied with Xavier and Marquette for fourth place in the standings. The offense is led by Matt Forster with five goals, four assists and 14 points - good enough for second place in the BIG EAST in total points nad points per game. Behind him is Skage Simonsen with four goals and three assists with Tani Oluwaseyi right there with three goals and two assists. Lenny Wilson has notched three shutouts in between the posts with a goals against average of 1.32, a save percentage of 0.738 and 31 saves.Â
Series Stuff
Saturday's meeting marks the 15th meeting between the two programs all-time. St. John's takes the advantage in this series, 8-3-3. DePaul has dropped two of the last three and looks to close the margin Saturday.Â
2017 Matchup
While the DePaul men's soccer outshot St. John's 14-10 and won the corners battle 14-10 as well, the Blue Demons were edged by the Red Storm 1-0 in their BIG EAST battle at Wish Field. The match's lone goal came in the eighth minute when a shot by St. John's Matt Forster deflected off a DePaul defender, bounced to the feet of Jack Shearer, and was tapped into the bottom right corner of the net by Shearer for the eventual game-winner. DePaul narrowly missed the equalizer in the final 10 minutes of the match when a point-blank touch by defender Anton Sell was pushed away by St. John's keeper to set up one of DePaul's 14 corner kicks on the afternoon.
