
Creighton Knocks Off DePaul

OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton opened up a 10-point halftime lead with an early second half run as the Bluejays defeated the Blue Demons, 82-57, on Tuesday night. Max Strus led DePaul with 14 points whiel Paul Reed and Eli Cain scored 11 points each.
Creighton came out of gates quickly as the Bluejays jumped out to an 8-2 lead less than two minutes into the game. DePaul answered with seven straight points and two Strus free throws gave the Blue Demons a 9-8 advantage.
The Bluejays regained the lead on back-to-back buckets by Ty-Shon Alexander that kickstarted a 14-3 run to give Creighton its first double-digit lead of the game at 22-12 with 12:51 left in the first half.
Creighton (21-9, 10-7 BIG EAST) built its lead as high as 17 points with 5:31 left until halftime before DePaul scored nine of the final 11 points of the first half to make the score 43-33 at intermission. Five different players scored for the Blue Demons in the half-ending flurry that kept DePaul within striking distance.
Following a three-pointer by Eli Cain, Creighton extended its 10-point halftime advantage over the next three minutes with 10 straight points to take a 20-point lead with 15 minutes left in the game.
The Creighton lead grew as high as 30 points late in the game before the 82-57 final score. Marcus Foster led the Bluejays with 20 points and Khyri Thomas added 16 with eight rebounds and eight assists.
Strus added seven rebounds and six assists to his 14 points while Cain grabbed four boards with three assists for the Blue Demons.
DePaul (11-18, 4-13 BIG EAST) concludes the regular-season schedule on Saturday against Xavier. Start time at Wintrust Arena is scheduled for 11 a.m. on FOX and 670 The Score.
Postgame Notes
- DePaul extended its three-point streak to 768 games in-a-row with a three-pointer.
- Eli Cain made his 90th career start... he moved into a tie for 15th on DePaul's all-time three-point field goal list.
- Creighton leads the series by an 18-16 margin... the Bluejays won the first meeting by a point at Wintrust Arena on Feb. 7.
