DePaul Secures Berth in BIG EAST Semifinals

CAYCE, S.C. - No. 1-seeded DePaul is headed to the BIG EAST Men's Tennis Championship semifinals after Friday's 4-1 victory over No. 8 Villanova.
The Blue Demons (16-9) will take on the winner of Friday's No. 4 Butler-No. 5 Georgetown quarterfinal match on Saturday with first serve at 12:30 p.m. (ET) at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center.
Coach Matt Brothers' band got on the scoreboard first after the tandems of Alex Galoustian and Boris Spanjaard along with Tripp Tuff and Christopher Casati opened their BIG EAST quarterfinal with victories to clinch the doubles point.
It was 2-0 after Luuk Wassenaar got his team off to a quick start in the singles competition with a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Alastair Hurry at No. 6.
Singles success by Tamas Zador at No. 5 and Spanjaard at No. 1 and locked up the quarterfinal for DePaul.
Zador came through with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Tommy Mulflur in giving DePaul a 3-0 lead. Villanova (9-15) scored its lone point at No. 2 singles.
Spanjaard won his fifth consecutive match after a 6-4, 6-4 result over Stefan Suarez for the winning point. The sophomore from the Netherlands is now 22-15 on the season and 14-10 in dual matches.
It gave the Blue Demons their fourth-straight victory.
