Four Teams Honored with BIG EAST Academic Excellence Awards

DePaul has totaled 60 programs to earn the league's Team Academic Excellence Award over last decade
CHICAGO – DePaul landed four BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Awards as the honors were announced by the league office on Tuesday. A total of 22 teams from the league's sports were recognized for having the highest collective grade-point averages in each conference sport.
Eight of the 10 all-sport BIG EAST schools had at least one team honored as the Blue Demons were second in the league with four teams recognized. DePaul's teams with the top GPAs included men's soccer, softball, men's tennis and women's tennis. DePaul has led the BIG EAST in Team Academic Excellence Awards in seven of the last eight years.
Georgetown totaled five teams with top academic marks followed by DePaul with four teams and Creighton and St. John's with three teams apiece. Butler had a pair of teams earn certificates, while Marquette, Seton Hall, Villanova, Temple and Vanderbilt rounded out the award winners with one nod apiece.
The winners were chosen based on the 2017-18 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
Since 2008-09, the DePaul's women's basketball, women's cross country, golf, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball, men's tennis, women's tennis, women's indoor track and field and women's outdoor track and field and volleyball teams have all earned the BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence at least once.
In the last 10 academic years DePaul has totaled 60 programs to earn the league's Team Academic Excellence Award with a department-best eight teams in 2016-17, 2014-15 and 2012-13.
