Young squads see action at season opener

CARMEL, IND. — The DePaul men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Butler Twilight on Friday. The Blue Demon men raced a 6K against conference opponent Butler, Wabash, Indianapolis, IUPUI, Marian and Purdue-Fort Wayne. The women competed in a 5K against the same competitors but also had Ball State in the pack. The men finished fifth and the women finish seventh in their respective competitions.

Starting his sophomore season strong, Charlie McIntyre was the men's top finisher clocking in at 19:56.5 totaling 14 points for the squad. The field of 86 runners saw newcomer Dominic Bruce (20:19.3) crossing the finish line next for the Blue Demons with junior Henry Harper close behind with 20:32.2.

Finishing in the top 15, senior Caroline Kurdej crossed the finish with a time of 19:08.8 to lead the Blue Demons. Rounding out the top 30 were junior Courtney Pickering (19:40.0) and freshman Maret Elgren with a time of 20:05.1.

The Blue Demons men's and women's cross country teams travel to Somers, Wis. to compete in the Vic Godfrey Open. Last season, the men placed 2^nd and the women finished in 3^rd during the regular season meet.
